The AquaGuard Pool Alarm System detects a child , pet or object with a minimum weight of 18 lbs (8kg) falling into a pool or spa. When the alarm is set off, a siren sounds at the main unit by the pool and in the wireless remote inside the house. AquaGuard technology has been extensively tested to the most rigorous standard for pool alarms in the world (AFNOR) as well as the U.S. ASTM standard. What all this means to you is that the system features excellant performance combined with the highest immunity to wind and other surface disruptions for consumer installed pool alarms. AquaGuard incorporates the latest advances in volumetric displacement technology. When a child or object falls into the pool; AquaGuard accurately measures the amount of water being replaced. If the water displaced is more than 18lbs, then the system triggers the siren to alert the homeowner. How The AquaGuard Pool Alarm Works The AquaGuard Pool Alarm System provides ease of use and intuitive "messaging" that lets you know the status of the system. When you want to use the pool, you simply enter your access code at the main unit's keypad or with the wireless remote, putting the system into "swim stand-by". A short while after everyone has left the pool the system will re-arm. Each AquaGuard System includes a main unit (detector) and a remote control. One AquaGuard alarm will cover a typical 32' by 16' rectangular or kidney shaped pool. If the pool is larger or irregular shaped, then you will need two systems. When using two systems, they can be operated via one wireless remote for ease of use. A spa will require a separate system.
AquaGuard is compatible with pool cleaners if they stay on the bottom or slowly climb the walls (e.g. Hayward Navigator, Polaris 280, 380, 480 series, etc.). AquaGuard will not work with some new pool cleaners that can “fly” to the surface and swim there and then dive back to the bottom (e.g. Hayward Phantom since this mimics the profile of a small child falling into the pool). AquaGuard will also not work with pool cleaners such as Barracuda, which pulsate continuously when they’re on. If you have a pool cleaner that does not work with AquaGuard, then you have the option of exchanging it for one that is compatible.

Why is the AquaGuard swimming pool alarm the #1 choice of the nation’s largest swimming pool builders?

Because it’s the most reliable consumer-installed swimming pool alarm that detects a child or pet (18 lbs or more) falling into the pool or spa while being virtually immune to wind and false alarms. AquaGuard even works in swimming pools with typical spa overflows and certain other water features.

When a child falls into the swimming pool, the detector’s dual sirens insure that you hear the pool alarm outside (louder than a car alarm) while the remote unit’s siren sounds inside the house. Swimming Pool builders very much like the fact that the AquaGuard Pool Alarm is very easy to use and always lets you know when it’s armed. The two-way remote allows their customers to put the system into “swim stand-by” mode from the house and the system even rearms itself after everyone has left the pool.

Swimming pool builders think it is very important for you to know when the system is armed or in “stand-by” mode or if there is a low battery. For this reason, we provide a large visible LED on the detector which tells you exactly that and the wireless remote does the same. Whenever the system re-arms, you will get a clearly audible tone sequence.

An effective way to determine the required number of AquaGuard units is to simply measure the width and length of your pool. The following chart shows the maximum length of pool for both single and dual AquaGuard configurations.

Example Configuration 1:

A pool with a width of 18 feet and a length of 26 feet would require a single unit configuration.

Example Configuration 2:

A pool with a width of 13 feet and a length of 33 feet would require a dual unit configuration.

Pool Alarm - Frequently Asked Questions

Questions About AquaGuard

What is the minimum weight of a child/object falling into the pool?
The ASTM standard for pool alarms specifies a minimum weight of 18lbs (8kg).

What are the dimensions of the AquaGuard unit?
10” x 10” x 10” lengths by 2 ¾” high (Triangle shape)

I have had another pool alarm which was constantly triggered by wind. How is AquaGuard different?
This is one of the key differentiators in AquaGuard technology. It passed the stringent AFNOR test for high winds and represents a big leap in technology. It is very immune to false alarms due to high wind.

Questions About Pool Equipment Compatibility

Does AquaGuard work with a spa overflow?
Yes, it works with most overflows (typically 12” to 24” height)

Does AquaGuard work when my filtration cycle is on?
Yes, with no interference.

Does AquaGuard work with pool cleaners?

Does AquaGuard work with an in-floor cleaning system?
AquaGuard works with in-floor cleaning as long as the detector is not close to nozzles on the first step of the stairs.

What kind of water features does the AquaGuard Pool Alarm work with?
AquaGuard works with most spa overflows. It will work with most sheer descents (typically 2 sheer descents in pool at 18” to 24” height).

Questions About Configuration and Installation

I have a pool and a spa. Do I need 2?
Yes, you will need one detector for the pool and one for the spa. AquaGuard configuration information is also available here.

How easy is it to install an AquaGuard Pool Alarm into our pool?
It is very easy. You can either just put the detector in the proper location on the pool deck, or you can mount it with 3 screws (requires drilling 3 holes as per template - hardware included).

My pool is 15’ by 40’. Can one detector cover my pool?
No. One detector covers a pool up to 16’ by 32’. Any pool larger than 16’ by 32’ and up to 16’ by 64’ (or equivalent square footage) requires 2 systems.
The maximum number of detectors that can be used in a pool is 2. AquaGuard configuration information is also available here.
